here's a small recap of Vancouver's natural Celebration of Lights last night:
Nearly 1000 lightning strikes were recorded between 10pm-12am, shown on the map. During a single hour (11pm-12am) Vancouver received almost 2 cm of rain, or half the normal total rainfall for the entire month of August! Payback for a dry July, I suppose.
To give you an idea of how unstable the atmosphere was Thursday evening, the National Weather Service in Seattle had tornado forecasters talking about a marginal tornado threat. Some meteorologists in the area decided not to tweet about it or pass the info along to the public because it would have caused unnecessary panic. More information here.
